There’s something you need to know about life on this spinning planet right now. It is made possible by INERTIA. Go ahead. Google it. The earth is still spinning on her axis basically because she just always has! The principle of inertia states informally “Welp, that thing was moving that way so it'll just keep on moving that way.”
Today is the fall equinox: that crisping time of year (even in 90 degree weather) when the length of night & day are equal. The sun rides high exactly above the equator & illuminates both hemispheres equally. Our Earth is resting easy, balanced, neither shying nor leaning towards the Sun.
And this, my friends, is how I got to thinking about what is keeping the planet turning. See, a LOOoooo0000OOooOOONG time ago, our solar system was formed from a big cloud of hydrogen that bumped and ground with some gravity & gave a bunch of planets a big push. They’ve been spinning counter clockwise ever since (except rebellious Venus & Uranus who go the other way).
And… back to inertia! Our environment & life as we know it depends on this planet doing her same ol thing. She’s disciplined, while still going with the flow. She must resist change for the sake of her children. She stays in the same place doing the same things because a bajillion lives depend on her steadfast strength to do that, no matter what. This in no way means she's lazy or stuck or stagnant. She’s fulfilling her purpose in a zillion ways below the atmospheric surface.
In a time when so many humans are thriving on self propulsion, running anywhere just to move, sometimes the most courageous act is to stay & grow.
On this autumnal equinox, I am calling in the ultimate balance & unending endurance of our Mother Earth.
I allow & trust the wisest forces of this Universe to guide my life, movements, thoughts, energy & family.
And so it is.
